Pilates, Yoga
Jen is a native Californian who migrated to San Diego from LA and has happily called Carlsbad home since Fall, 2020. When Jen found Yoga in her early 20’s, it was love at first downward dog and after several years of practicing for herself, she become a certified teacher in 2012 completing her first 200 hour teacher training through Yogaworks in Los Angeles. Upon completion of her certification (and nursing a handful of injuries) Jen happened upon a class with master teacher and yoga therapist Jasmine Lieb and immediately knew she’d found both her mentor and the style of yoga she would embrace teaching thereafter. After a seven year apprenticeship, 2000+ hours of the Living Yoga Therapeutics Teacher Training and becoming a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists in 2017, Jen is deeply proud to share this lineage of yoga (which is rooted through the work of Indra Devi and traces back to the father of modern yoga, Sri Krishnamacharya) as a healing modality and tool for improved overall health and well-being.
“I have to say, the greatest, albeit unexpected bonus of my move to North County has been cultivating a new passion for pilates, specifically using Total Gym’s Encompass Gravity Reformer. I grew up in the era of informercials watching Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley talk about this amazing machine; I was thrilled to learn how accessible pilates became when using this less traditional reformer set up. I love how it made my body feel and how it helped me begin to reshape my body after a significant lapse in movement during California’s pandemic lockdown. I feel deeply privileged to have found another modality of teaching that I love and to have the opportunity to learn the foundations of classical pilates with such talented and knowledgeable veteran teachers as Emilie Miller and Elizabeth Schmutzer. My goal is always to keep learning! As my personal practices evolve and my teaching evolves, my hope is to help as many people as I can to feel well, comfortable, strong and flexible within their own physical space.”
When Jen is not teaching yoga or pilates, she loves to cook, travel, watch documentaries and spend time with her husband Jason and their beloved bulldog, Bonnie McMurray.
